Trip 4 Day 11 SAM dunes
I don't remember when did I wake up today, might be early. It is my checkout day from the hotel. By the night I've to leave for Jodhpur.
Again I've no plans for Jaisalmer today. So I thought to visit the places within the city.
Vacating room and walking down from the hotel I reached Gadisar lake which rarely a kilometre distance from my hotel.
Gadisar is a beautiful lake situated on the outskirts of the city. Quick photos and was leaving for Patwon ki Haveli again walking distance.
But I encountered with some ladies who were on streets singing and dancing all around for money collection on the festive occasion of Holi.
They saw and hampering my way. Not allowing me to go further. I told them I'm a student and gave little amount in exchange of bigger currency.
They returned back the rest. I took pictures with them but not the video they were resisting for this. Vloggers to maintain a proper distance.
I barely have tea after I got sick before this trip and it was all because of excessive tea. Still cutting was fine with some snacks.
Patwon ki Haveli I heard about it so reached. There are 5 such buildings made in the span of 60 years with such a fine piece of architecture that it is worth coming here.
I entered a saw a foreigner speaking Hindi language talking to someone. I moved ahead and sat down at one of 6 benches.
A kid came and sat down near my foot. Offered me boot polish. Firstly I asked him to stand up and sit next to me.
I asked him why he is doing this job instead of studies. He has no answer. His parents were in labour. He doesn't go to school.
Hearing all this was painful. I took a photo with him and left. He introduced me about the Haveli. The present past.
Among 5 two of them were closed and 2 were allowed only after buying tickets. Each of 12 floors.
Few pictures while roaming around outside the buildings, was not interested to visit inside. It would be nothing different.
I met that foreigner who was speaking Hindi. He is from Australia but loves India.
He gave an interview to me in Hindi about his journey and love for India. I left for Salam Singh ki Haveli but as compared to Patwon k Haveli this architecture is rough.
I headed towards the hotel. It's 1 pm and can plan for the remaining day. Devi Lal ji offered me to go SAM dunes on his package.
No one could deny his offer the package it has cultural program, dinner, breakfast, ride in the desert. But still, I was not getting the exact idea.
So he suggested me if you are on a budget trip then you can rent a bike and if the plan changes you can stay there as well.
So I did. I called Vishal and took his suggestion he drive me to bike market and rented a NAVI from Shiva bike shop in just ₹300.
That's too cheap and the time is 2 pm. If I'll return tomorrow it be charged ₹100 more. But I was in no mood to stay in SAM as I didn't have my own tent.
I went back to the hotel packed my smaller bag had lunch and by 2:40 I left to SAM.
The vehicle tank is half full, so I've nothing to worry about petrol. SAM is 40kms from the hotel. 1.5lt petrol extra is enough.
Just a few kilometres riding I confirmed about the path to SAM. A middle-aged person told me to go straight while asking me to drop him to SAM village.
In other cities, it was me who asked for hitchhiking and now it is payback time.
Kuldhara the haunted village lies in between Jaisalmer and SAM which is known for has been vacated overnight.
Since then it is called haunted. I asked about this to many and everybody told no different story.
There was a Pathan who ruled Havelis in Jaisalmer. He told yokals in Kuldhara a girl before her marriage has to spend a night with him.
Some told he liked a girl so much that he wanted to carry her next morning but overnight Kuldhara vacated.
When Pathan reached next morning there was no one.
Meanwhile, I'd some pictures in a mid way, I asked the hitchhiker to take some pictures from different sides of the road.
I dropped this hitchhiker 2km before SAM. The road to SAM is like jhula, ropeway so flexible and smooth that one enjoys while riding does I did.
I enjoyed riding more than anything else. Riding boosts confidence. I parked my bike aside and went for a camel ride. I sat on Shahrukh Khan (camel) and the rider is Maqsood.
About 2km of the camel ride and several pictures by Maqsood Khan I stepped down nearby the bike.
Walking on sand is a new different experience and also a camel ride.
I drove back my bike where I wanted to. While coming towards SAM there was a diversion to a village. I went there.
The drained land in starting later vegetation in few regions. While away from the road a few kilometres far huge sand can be seen.
From where the maximum crowd was returning back. So I thought why should I not go this way.
I tried driving my bike into the sand but after a certain point, it couldn't move further and stuck in the sand.
So I just could see as far as I can and trying returning back with a promise to return to sand land again soon.
I came back on the main road parked NAVI and took some candid photos of surroundings. I shoot some videos by hanging my mobile with a bag on a pole.
The sky was cloudy, what sunset I'm expecting it may not occur. I'm returning back to the camel ride place.
Parked my bike near the shop and went walking to the sand area which is crowded now.
An owner with camel trying to negotiate for the prices for a camel ride to shooting area for which I'm not at all interested.
He followed me till the top of the little sand mountain. Sun is covered with clouds so the sunset which I'm expecting touching the land seems near to impossible to see.
Sat for at least an hour when tourists started leaving the place. The sky is turning dark now. Too dark that I can see the shining stars.
It is very soothing and relaxing, as I don't have much but I'll come to this place again with proper planning.
It's 8 and I'm leaving now for Jaisalmer. While back to the city in mid not only once several times I used to turn off the light of bike and look at the blank roads and shining stars.
The spectacular view made to do so repeatedly so I was it is so mesmerizing. I'm loving it.
I reached near to Kuldhara but when I was turning towards the heading road, toll guy stopped me to going there claiming it to be haunted place.
He convinced me enough to return back to the city. As a closer, I'm getting to the city the lights were going brighter.
By 9:30 I returned the bike to Shiva bike. He is a gentleman I'd come again and rent a bike from his place only.
A half kilometre is a hotel from here. Reached here spend some time. Devi Lal invited me to his brother's wedding so it is party time tonight.
I've train today to Jodhpur. I packed my bag on time. The train was at 12:55 am. I ended up the distance by walking from hotel to station.
While in between the road a group of people quarrelled and one of them hit another by a knife.
It is a frightening sight so I started walking in the middle of the road. I thought to complain to RPF if they're entering station but they didn't.
I got to the general compartment luckily got the seat. I took out my sleeping bag and tried sleeping but it is not easy to sleep here.
A group of people came and they started waking up people to get the seat. This happens only in Indian railways.
